Discussion > Dimension #5: American Perspective – An Overview

    Hello everyone,

I have been assigned Dimension #5: American Perspective – An Overview. Every member of our class was born and raised in America. As a result, how we view the world has been greatly influenced by the society and culture we are familiar with and have grown up in; our freedoms, being a superpower, etc. From your standpoint, how do you feel about what you experienced during our travels? This can include any aspect of the overseas trip, and I welcome both broad and specific observations..

Also, I have been given the assignment of writing about our travels between March 24th – March 26th. This includes the ferry ride to Dublin, the Trinity College program, the ferry ride to London and everything in-between. If you could email me with any comments, stories, and photos from this section of the trip I would greatly appreciate it. Please send all materials (Word docs and JPEGs preferably) to AugieJoe83@aol.com

Please contact me via email should you have any questions or concerns regarding the above.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort!

I had a couple of specific observations:

One of the biggest observations that I had was that those in Europe don’t drive large vehicles like trucks or SUVs—they are virtually non-existent on the roads and highways. Many drive small cars, like Smart Cars © or other economical cars. In the United States, it’s almost the exact opposite. Many Americans have a different set of priorities when it comes to their vehicles.

I feel that children in Europe receive an education that is much more global than in the United States. In the US, children many times elect to study other languages like Spanish or French and aren’t required to study another language. Since we are in a global economy, I believe that exposing American children to other languages will only help them succeed at a higher level in the world market and environment.

A word document was sent to Jennie, which included my summaries for each of the dimensions and any additional questions the team lead proposed. Five photos were also sent!
